Video: Evolution Peformance first to run 8s with 2013 Shelby GT500
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

Last year Evolution Performance became the first to run a 2013 Shelby GT500 in the 9s, setting the benchmark with a 9.95 second pass at 142 mph at Atco Raceway in New Jersey. Now the shop in Aston, PA has once again reset the mark with an astounding 8.94 second run, becoming the first to drop below the nine second mark in  2013 Shelby GT500. Making the feat even more impressive is that the Grabber Blue Shelby’s stock 6-speed manual transmission is still in place.

So what does it take to build an eight second Shelby GT500? A fully built 5.8L V8 from L&M Race Engines and tuned by Lund Racing is now under the hood, with the stock 2.3L supercharger swapped out for a Kenne Bell 3.6L liquid-cooled unit running just under 23 pounds of boost. In total, Evolution Performance’s Shelby produces 1,156 horsepower and 1,078 lb-ft torque at the rear wheels. All of that power runs through a Spec twin-disc clutch and aluminum flywheel as well as a FAB 9-inch rear end, and a set of Mickey Thompson ET drag slicks wrapped over Weld RT-S wheels help put it to the ground.

Want to see the Shelby’s eight second pass for yourself? Just click the play button below and enjoy the video in up to 1080 HD.

Performance Autosport shows off new livery for their Mustang RTR race car
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

We’ve been following Performance Autosport and driver Chris Cobetto since they debuted their NASA American Iron race car in 2011. Not only does the team have lots of success on track,  as they not only have a lot of success on track, winning two straight Mid-Atlantic American Iron championships, but their cars are also beautifully designed. The same goes for the latest iteration of the car, which Performance Autosport debuted this weekend with updated 2013 RTR bodywork and an all new race livery that they describe as a “darker, meaner, more menacing look.”

It’s not all cosmetic, though, as the PAS Mustang has been upgraded with a new suspension system from CorteX Racing including their SLA front suspension and Xtreme-Grip watts-link at the rear.

The new Performance Autosport Mustang RTR will make its racing debut this weekend at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia.

Ford’s Flat Rock Facility Births Its Millionth Mustang
Source: Caranddriver.com
April 19, 2013 at 1:09 pm by Andrew Wendler

Exactly 49 years after being publicly introduced as the Mustang at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York, the one-millionth Mustang to be produced in Ford’s Flat Rock, Michigan, facility rolled off the assembly line. A ruby-red 2014 Mustang convertible observed the ceremonial honors, fittingly piloted by Ed Salna, 27-year plant veteran, and Raj Nair, Ford’s vice president for global product development. The event also marks the 50th year of continuous Mustang production, which moved to Ford’s Flat Rock facility in 2004. Ford has recently invested $555 million in the plant, and production of the Ford Fusion within its walls will commence this fall.

Originally produced at Ford’s legendary and imposing Rouge complex located a few miles to the north, the popularity of the first-generation Mustang grew so swiftly that Ford was forced to bring online additional plants in New Jersey and California to satiate public demand. Within two years, Mustang production would hit its first million-car milestone, essentially creating the pony-car segment in the process. To date, more than 8.5 million Stangs have been sold.

Although at the time, Ford refereed to it as “the working man’s Thunderbird,” the Mustang quickly developed an audience that crossed all social-economic and gender barriers, a trait that helped it sell more than 400,000 units in its first year of production. Ford played to this characteristic wisely over the next half a century, always making sure each generation of Mustang was available in varying levels of trim ranging from thrifty four-cylinders to V-8–endowed pavement pounding monsters.

The original Mustang’s launch still stands as one of the most effective product campaigns in modern history, and you can count on Ford squeezing every ounce of publicity from the Mustang’s 50th anniversary it can. In the meantime, why not peruse our gallery of Mustangs spanning its 49-year history?

Eleanor Hero Car from Gone in 60 Seconds going up for auction at Mecum
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

A true movie star will make its way down Mecum’s signature red carpet this May in Indianapolis. Known by most simply as “Eleanor,” the modified 1967 Ford Mustang from Touchstone Pictures’ “Gone in 60 Seconds” will cross the block as Lot S135 at Dana Mecum’s 26th Original Spring Classic auction this May 14-19. This collector car icon piloted in the movie by retired master car thief Memphis Raines, played by Nicholas Cage, is the real McCoy. Several cars were built to handle various duties in the filming of “Gone,” but this is serial number 7R02C179710, the “Hero” car driven by Cage during filming and the model used in movie close-ups, posters and promotional materials.

Built by Cinema Vehicle Services with the help of master designer Chip Foose, the body pieces of Eleanor were mocked up on a Mustang using clay and wood. Molds were then made to produce a new fiberglass front end filled with high-powered PIAA driving lights, new fender flares, side skirts and scoops, hood and trunk lid. To give the car big-screen performance, it was treated to a 351/400 HP Ford crate engine, which shares room with a front subframe body brace by Total Control Products, LLC. This progenitor of the Eleanor revolution is relatively untouched inside with the exception of an Autometer Sport Comp Monster tach, fire extinguisher, Go-Baby-Go shift knob button for Line Lock and a switch for activating a nitrous injection system.

“Eleanor has become one of the most widely recognized movie star muscle cars in the world, so when the decision was made to offer the ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ Hero car for sale, Mecum’s Spring Classic auction in Indianapolis seemed like the perfect venue,” commented Ray Claridge, owner of Cinema Vehicle Services. Set to be offered directly from the builder on Saturday, May 18 at the original, best and largest muscle car auction, this is truly the car that started it all.

Thirty-two hours of the Indianapolis auction will be broadcast live on Discovery’s Velocity Network with the entire auction streaming live on Mecum’s website at www.mecum.com. Mecum’s Indy auction is open to buyers, sellers and spectators. Gates open at 8 a.m. each day and general admission can be purchased at the door for $20 per person; children 12 and younger will be admitted at no cost. For more information on the auction or to register as a bidder, visit www.mecum.com or call (262) 275-5050.

New-gen Ford Mustang clay models leaked
Source: inautonews.com

The next generation of the Ford Mustang has recently leaked in what appear to be some clay models, revealing part of their final design.

We have recently spoken about the engine lineup which will make its way under the hood of the next generation Ford Mustang, but nothing about its exterior design, just yet. The North American based automaker has mentioned that the muscle car will get a more global design but judging by the images posted below, it seems that the company won’t go too far from its roots, with this model. The images in question have been taken at Ford’s design studio recently, but keep in mind that the final production version might be quite different.
Initial rumors are saying that the next generation of the Ford Mustang will get an EcoBoost engine under its hood, on its two main markets, the United States and Europe, which should help future owners pay cheaper taxes. Fuel consumption will also be severely improved thanks to these changes, along with the CO2 emissions. The EcoBoost engine in question is expected to be the same one from the Focus ST, which will get an increased displacement, from 2.0 to 2.3 liters, along with more power, to a total of 300 HP (220 kW). The next generation of the Ford Mustang should make its way onto the market next year.

2013 Shelby 1000 previewed ahead of New York Auto Show debut
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

Shelby has announced that they will introduce the 2013 version of the most powerful production, street legal muscle car in the world on March 28, 2013, at the New York International Auto Show. The company will have on display its 2013 Shelby 1000 S/C version with 1,200 horsepower, which is based on the Ford Shelby GT500. Beginning with Ford’s new massive 5.8L V8 power plant, the 2013 Shelby 1000 puts unprecedented horsepower to the pavement, while running on pump gas.

“The 2012 Shelby 1000 was launched to great acclaim at the New York Auto Show last year to celebrate our 50th anniversary,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “We’re bringing back the Shelby 1000 to New York, but with Ford’s new 2013 Shelby GT500 as the base car. With its new engine, launch control, adjustable suspension and other new enhancements, we’ve created a car with even more capabilities. The 2013 Shelby 1000 incorporates everything we’ve learned over five decades of creating high-performance vehicles.”

While the stock 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 offers 662 HP, Shelby American strips the 5.8 liter engine down to the block, strengthens the internals and then cranks up the power. Combining a finely tuned adjustable suspension with a performance cooling package, big brakes and serious horsepower, the Shelby can outperform exotics costing three-to-four times more.

“The 2013 Shelby 1000 is the most powerful production muscle car on the market,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American’s test driver. “But this car cannot be defined by just its amazing power. The steering provides wonderful feedback and the car tracks beautifully, giving it an athletic feel. It attacks corners, ripping through them with minimal body roll and tremendous grip. Yet the Shelby 1000 can be so docile that you can cruise it down the streets of Manhattan.”

The 2013 Shelby 1000 S/C track version runs on pump gas and is rated at 1,200 HP. The post-title package starts at $154,995, not including the base GT500. A limited production of 100 2013 Shelby 1000’s will be built and each will be numbered and documented in the official Shelby Registry.

Shelby American will also unveil another vehicle at the New York International Auto Show. Like the Shelby Focus ST, it will not be Ford Mustang based.

Shelby American is now accepting orders for the limited edition 2013 Shelby 1000. Those interested in reserving a car should contact the Shelby American Sales team at (702) 942-7325 or visit www.shelbyamerican.com.

Pure Vision Design previews GT40-inspired 1970 Mustang Fastback project
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

Southern California-based Pure Vision Design has built some pretty impressive classic Mustangs the past few years, from the 1969 Anvil Mustang that debuted at the 2010 SEMA Show to the Martini Racing-themed 1966 T-5R Mustang Fastback powered by an Indycar engine that the company showed off this past year. The company has several projects in the works as well, the latest being a 1970 Mustang Fastback inspired by the Ford GT40 race cars that competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1960s. From the rendering you can see that Mustang recalls the GT40′s legendary styling via the dual racing stripes and the 6-spoke knock-off wheels.

Each Pure Vision Design creation always has a special powerplant, and this 1970 Mustang Fastback will be no exception. Under the hood will be an aluminum big block 520 cid V8 built by John Kaase that will resemble the same engines that powered the GT40. Horsepower and torque will be directed through a clutchless 6-speed manual and a Heidts first-gen Camaro independent rear end converted to work with the Mustang. PVD also plans on installing JME’s front suspension system and a Flaming River steering rack.

We can’t wait to see the finished product, and we’ll let you know as we hear any more news about the car.

One-off 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake going up for auction in May
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

Mecum Auctions announced today a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the offering of the legendary 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake – the only one of its kind ever built – at Dana Mecum’s 26th Original Spring Classic auction in Indianapolis, May 14-19 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. This history-making, Shelby American-built mechanical marvel will cross the block for the first time ever at live public auction on Friday, May 17 as the headliner to more than 2,000 vehicles at the original, largest and best muscle car auction in the world.

Carroll Shelby originally assigned the car to demonstrate Goodyear’s new “Thunderbolt” budget passenger car tires in a high-profile press event, but the mission was expanded after a chance encounter between Shelby and his friend, former Shelby American sales manager Don McCain. McCain suggested that Carroll put a racing 427 Le Mans GT40 engine in the GT500 for the test and let him sell the car with the intention of building 50 more to be marketed and sold to the public as the powerhouse Shelby Super Snakes, thus originating the name.

Intrigued by the possibilities, Shelby instructed Fred Goodell, Shelby American’s chief engineer on loan from Ford, to prepare the GT500 with a special engine for the test. It was the same powerplant used in the Le Mans-winning GT40 Mk II, including a variation on the Mk II’s “bundle of snakes” exhaust system and its output of 600 horsepower. Described by McCain as “the mother of all 427s,” it powered the car to a top speed of 170 MPH with Shelby at the wheel for press demonstration laps before Goodell averaged 142 MPH for the 500-mile tire test at Goodyear’s San Angelo, Texas, test facility. The event was judged a success, but McCain’s plan to sell 50 Super Snakes was ultimately dashed by the car’s $8,000 price tag; even the 427 Cobra cost less.

After a series of documented owners, the Super Snake was purchased by Richard Ellis, an Illinois collector of rare Shelby Race Cars. It showed 26,000 miles on the odometer and almost no deterioration. “I wanted to own this piece of Shelby history more than anything,” Ellis said. “It was well cared for by its previous owners, but I’ve put a lot of effort into returning it to the state it was in on the day of the tire test. Now it is time to allow another collector or museum the opportunity to be the caretaker of what is the most unique and historically significant Shelby Mustang every built. I have enjoyed it a great deal and now it is time to move on. It will be missed,” Ellis added.

Built with the heart of a Le Mans champion yet ultimately destined for but one day in the sun, there is only one Super Snake, the result of a confluence of forces that could only have happened in the charmed life of one Carroll Shelby.

The Super Snake will have its time to shine again as the star of Dana Mecum’s 26th Original Spring Classic auction. This one-of-a-kind car will cross the block at the perfect venue for the fastest-ever street-legal Shelby Mustang as lot F203 on Friday, May 17.

Roush announces updated Mustang lineup for 2014 including Aluminator engine option
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

Today Roush announced the details for the 2014 lineup including the RS, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 Mustang. While much remains the same for 2014, just like the factory lineup, Roush has brought a few updates to the table highlighted by an additional 10 horsepower for the Stage 3 (up to 575 from 565) and a new Ford Racing Aluminator engine option for customers that might want to add even more horsepower to the supercharged 5.0-liter V8.

“This year we have teamed with Ford Racing to offer their Aluminator engine as an option.” stated Tim Wheeler, Vice President of Roush Performance. “With forged engine components for added strength, the Aluminator is a great option for those who might want to take their Stage 3 to the next level down the road. It is easier than ever to personalize and build a truly unique Stage 3 that is sure to stand out in any crowd.”

All 2014 Roush “Stage” Mustangs are available in both coupe and convertible chassis and both manual and automatic transmissions. They are covered by Roush’s 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

New Edge 1999-2004 / Black rims?
« on: March 12, 2013, 11:40 AM »
Now that the weather is getting warmer, I feel the need to waste more money on my car.  I have been on the fence about plasti-dipping my wheels in black, so I thought I would get some opinions from you all.  I already have the trunk lid panel, lower rear valence, emblems and grille, and will soon have the spoiler done in matte black, and if I did the rims they would be gloss black.  So what are your thoughts?  Are black rims overdone, or am I overdoing it with the black trim?

Edit: I forgot to mention that the rims are currently the same color as the car, mineral gray.

Independent test of 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake results in 10 second 1/4 mile times
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

With 850 horsepower on tap from its supercharged 5.8-liter V8 the 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake has the potential to compete with some of the top supercars in the world, but whether the car can put all that power to use is another question. Shelby is out to prove that it can, and have announced that the 2013 GT500 Super Snake has achieved ten second quarter mile times using street legal tires and pump gas. A recent test session, which was done by an independent driver at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, FL, resulted in several mid-10 second passes including a best time of 10.66 seconds at 137 mph using Nitto NT5550R street tires.

“The 2013 Super Snake’s impressive quarter mile test numbers, using pump gas and street tires, ranks it among the fastest production cars available,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “But it’s more than just raw power and ridged track performance. Owners can drive this car every day with its docile and comfortable ride in normal traffic situations.”

After the test the independent driver stated that, “the 2013 Super Snake is one of the most amazing Mustangs we’ve driven and is the fastest and most responsive Mustang we’ve tested to date. It makes every bit of the advertised 850 horsepower, and we put it to the test on the track. It produced a series of mid-10-second runs at over 135 mph, which is staggering performance for a 50-state-legal, emission compliant vehicle.”

The independent tester added that, “with a drag race setup the Super Snake would likely produce quarter mile runs in the nine second range, yet it maintains all the comfort and features of any new Shelby. Even the Launch Control worked flawlessly. Clutch actuation is smooth and precise and the suspension provides enhanced performance without sacrificing ride quality.”

For Sale: Creations n’ Chrome’s Boy Racer Mustang up for grabs
Source: Mustangsdaily.com

We would normally never recommend buying a SEMA show car. They’re usually put together last minute and are only constructed well enough to withstand the riggers of the show floor. We would have no such reservations about the Boy Racer Mustang built by Creations n’ Chrome, however. Originally built for the SEMA in 2011, Boy Racer is more than just a show car and was designed for one thing – to go fast. Well, it was designed to look good too; the chrome paint job is very real and not a vinyl wrap. Owner Gary Watson, who has decided to it was time “for Boy Racer to leave the corral and make his way out into the wild,” has proven the car’s performance merits by competing in events like the Mojave Mile, blowing through the standing mile at 182 mph. Yes, the car is very functional and very fast.

So what comes with the car? In addition to the chrome paint job, Boy Racer features a 3dCarbon body kit, HRE wheels, a Vortech supercharger system, Wilwood disc brakes, KW coilover suspension system and more. The interior is all business with Sparco races seats, a removable steering wheel and 8-point roll cage, making it both a usable street and race car in one. The asking price? Watson tells us that serious offers in the $60,000 range will be considered.
