I hope they do something a little different styling wise to go along with the new suspension. Nothing drastic, just evolutionary.

Rehagen Racing takes win at second Belle Isle World Challenge race
Source: MustangsDaily.com

The Ford Mustang had its most successful outing of the 2013 SCCA World Challenge season with Dean Martin of Rehagen Racing taking his very first win in the series. Martin, in only his second career World Challenge start, won the second of two races that were part of the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, marking the first time that the Mustang has claimed the top spot on the podium this season. Taking advantage of a race restart on lap 21, Martin managed to squeeze past several spinning cars to take the lead before the yellow flag came out again and held onto it for the remainder of the race.

“I don’t know if there was more than three inches extra between Andy’s [Pilgrim] car and the wall,” Martin said. “Alec [Udell] and I managed to get between them, and then just started charging on when I saw the green flag. It looked like Aschenbach got hurt in the accident, or just checked up. I just stuffed it in there and got by him, and then came around and saw the white flag. I was a little relieved because I saw Mark [Wilkins] coming.”

There were several other Mustang drivers that finished in the top ten as well including Alex Udell who claimed the final podium spot in 3rd, Brad Adams in 7th, and rookie Roger Rodas of the Always Evolving team that finished a season best in 9th.

You could go with the Ford Racing 550 Whipple set-up. Comes with everything you need. Or you could do a ProCharger D1SC and run a 4" pulley. Both are available with everything you need. Down the road you could just upgrade your pistons and rods. Your stock crank and block are just fine. If you go with the ProCharger D1SC and want to run more boost and make over 600hp, you will need to upgrade your fuel system. That kit with forged pistons & rods and upgraded fuel system is good for over 700rwhp or as you folks on that side of the pond say over 700bhp ;)

Agent 47 previews new 1969 Mustang American Iron race car
Source: MustangsDaily.com

Agent 47 Racing showed off their latest project this past month at the Fabulous Fords Forever show in Southern California, a 1969 Ford Mustang that will compete in NASA’s American Iron racing series. The car, dubbed the Harbinger X2, is a follow-up to their initial road-going 1969 Harbinger Mustang that the company built a few years ago. As you can see from the photos the new car is still very much in progress, although a company representative tells us it should be ready to go and out on track by early next month.

Unlike the initial Harbinger Mustang, which was based on a fiberglass Dynacorn body, the X2 is a genuine 1969 Mustang, albeit highly modified. The existing frame rails are used, but a fully integrated roll cage extends into the engine bay where a brand new Ford Racing Boss 302 crate motor has been installed. A unique airbox co-developed between Agent 47 and K&N feeds air through the single throttle body, and a custom exhaust system exits just past the passenger door. The exposed front end also reveals Agent 47′s SLA suspension system, with a setup close to their current SN95 Mustang race car. While not pictured, the Harbinger X2 will also get custom fender flares and bodywork inspired by the Trans-Am Mustangs of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

We’ll show you more photos, and hopefully some video, once the Agent 47 Harbinger X2 Mustang is finished, but until then you can see the yet-to-be-completed version in detail in the photo gallery below.

RPM Member "Marc S" and TMS build a 358ci NASCAR-powered 2008 Mustang
Boss Man / RPM

As many of you know, for the last 8 months I have been working as the Director of Sales & Marketing for The Mustang Shop in Auburn, WA. Our General Manager and my boss, Marc Sorger (RPM member "Marc S") decided we wanted to turn his already awesome ProCharged 2008 Mustang track car into an absolute beastly competitor in the NASA American Iron Extreme Class. The beauty of AIE class is that any OEM engine can be used and there are no horsepower or torque limits. So what would you do if you were GM of The Mustang Shop? Marc sourced a 358 cubic inch V8 from Roush/Yates that came out of Mark Martin's Winston Cup race car. Along with the engine, several other NASCAR components including the shifter and driveshaft were purchased from Roush/Yates and used on his Mustang's build.

Marc was originally planning on using one of Tiger Racing's super louver hoods, but clearance may have still been an issue. So we came up with the idea of cutting the stock hood to accommodate the Roush Composites air cleaner cover - Kind of NASCAR shaker hood style!

Marc had to make some changes to the Roush/Yates engine to make it more suited for road course racing, such as the intake, cam and carburetor.

Thanks to a sponsorship from The Mustang Shop's suspension partner Whiteline Flatout, Marc's Mustang suspension now has the full Whiteline setup including their sweet watts-link system and anti-dive kit.

Check out my photos and videos below to hear more of this one-of-a-kind NASCAR-powered Mustang race car.
