New Edge 1999-2004 / Aluminum short block?
« on: May 20, 2013, 12:18 AM »
So I guess a little update.. Got a refurbished block, another slowvalve 4.6. Came with a fresh cracked valve cover! Woo woo! Swapped off the old motor and we're good... Also flywheel was cracked and turns out finding a replacement one is harder than I thought, ended up having to order a billet one from AM.. The throughout bearing was also in fantastic shape, I'll take some pictures tomorrow hopefully. It was so perfect, that it was off centered.. Picked up a new clutch as well.. Also while pulling the coils off the old motor, found a coil totally melted to a spark plug.. Anger got the best of me and pulled it out. Found a nice reservoir of water sitting on the spark plug, so another guess is that not only did my motor throw a rod, it hydro locked the 7th cylinder as well.. I'm probably missing a few other screw ups but whatever, everything else has gone smooth so far, all that we have left is wiring everything back up, putting new plugs in.. Coils..
OH the motor was also 4ish quarts low.. Yet no noticeable hole in the block or pan.. Who knows any more haha the motor was definitely ready to die from all the little things going wrong.
But! Should be on the road Wednesday night. Fingers crossed that we've bypassed all the other problems.

I mean. I've heard of people doing it before, but haven't seen any write ups or pictures of the actual swap being done.
I've heard it depends on what assembly plant assembled our motors.

Quick question for all you gear heads.  My buddy has offered to sell me his aluminum short block out of his '05 GT.  Does anyone know if I could swap everything from my motor over to the aluminum block?
Or am I just better off dishing out more cash and getting a refurbished 2v?
Any help is very much appreciated! I'm losing the little bit of sanity I have left from not being able to go cruise in my moostang.

Does it come with the plastic wrap still on the Sun Visors/TV's?
If so, I'm in.

Oh man, just read this thread. So sorry to hear that.

Thanks man, but you know, this only opens the door to a bigger better power plant.. May be working out a plan to get a 3v under the hood.  My buddy at work is planning on swapping out his motor and would sell me his cheap, and I'd be able to use the shop at my work.. So hopefully I won't be out for more than a month.. Hopefully.. Haha

New Edge 1999-2004 / Time for a 4v..

So.  Today was awesome, this morning went out with a few other mustang guys to a local car show, some some Ferraris, some mustangs, couple vettes..  After the show went and had some fun (did a few pulls, some donuts, etc), but all fun comes at the cost.. of killing the 2v.  She no longer purrs, no longer turns over.  Not sure what I did, but now shes done.  Luckily for me I was able to get her to limp home, where literally in my driveway, she took her last breath.  Rolled her out of the way to where she will sit for a while..

My thought is, she has 400miles less than 150k, so rebuilding her seems pointless unless I'm going to rebuild everything.. which isn't what I EVER wanted to do to this poor 2v..  So now I'm thinking.. why not buy a 4v crate motor?  I'd love to buy a new mustang, or atleast one with less miles, but now that will not happen due to lack of funds at the time being and lack of a number even worth parting with the car for.  Crunching some numbers, I'm looking at arund $2,700 for a crate 4v, $200 for a new ECU.. and well new everything.  I'm hoping I can have all this saved up for by the end of summer.. and essentually have a new car, or atleast a car with a motor.. with 0 miles :D

But for now, she will be under a blanket.. under a tarp.. under a tree.. out of the way off the side of our driveway for the next while..  If anyone has any other solutions that I should look into, please let me know because I really don't want to be car less for as long as I'm most likely going to be..  Sorry for the rant!

It's been awhile, I know, (and for some of you, you were thinking thank God hes gone.. Well now I'm back!) but heres some updates of what I have done over the past few months.. no more Fobra ;)

So. Basic run through of what I've done.. First off, finally replaced my dated Cobra R replicas and threw on some Black 18" Saleen rims(18x9 & 18x10)
Replaced the O/R X for an O/R H pipe (Sounds like a beast now In my opinion)
Traded my Cobra rear bumper for a stock GT rear bumper.. with some complications, ended up with a different GT bumper.. color coated to the later Satin Silver.. continuing on..
Pulled the stripes off, no more racecar..
added some vinyl works else where, rear bumper lower valence, blacked out decklid and the roof blackout.
Had the front windows tinted to 15% and the front windshield to 50%..And finally maned up and purchased a OE Terminator chin spoiler..
Still to come.. when I get some funds again..  Install of my 4.10s, bumping up form my 3.73s, and some possible coil overs, found some for a really good price.. also looking in Cobra Mirrors..

But yeah. Thats been my last few months worth of savings and tax returns.. Spent all on this wannabe garage queen.

Hopefully by mid next week I'll be able to get some pictures up, and the added bits and pieces from the past two months.. A bit drastic, but so far it's lookin mighty fine ;)

So with tax returns almost here(or already here), I figured it'd only be proper to ask, what are you all getting for the stangs?
I know I'll be looking at some new black shoes, steeper gearing and a possible dyno tune!
So let's hear them!  I'm sure at least a few of you will be using these funds for some new additions.

The Nitto 555 Extremes.. Or whatever they are called, somewhere in that neighborhood, are well worth the money, I'm actually going to a crappier tire because they are too good for me.. Lol
But if you want a good tire and are willing to spend a few extra bucks, I highly recommend those.
