Introduce Yourself / So What's New?
« on: June 14, 2012, 06:35 AM »
Not me, many of you know me by now but for those newer members who do not my name is Karen and I am a Mustangaholic :)

I currently only own 4 Mustangs (just sold my Mustang II recently, tough decision but needed the money :'().  In my stable I currently have my 1968 High Country Special, 1995 Mustang GT vert, 2005 V6 daily driver, and the car most know which is my Nasty 03 GT.

Last time I was out I did the Carlisle All Ford Nationals.  Did anyone else go?  If you did I hope you stuck around to see the burnout contest, I was the one getting comments my car was too nice to be doing burnout contests ::)

Hey, it is a mustang and meant to be enjoyed, lol.  Still pulled off a double win for the show also for both Mustangs I had there.

So what has everyone been up to?

2
j/k ;)  Kinda, lol.  I still have the '03 (like I would ever part with it) but I did get another Stang ;D  Puts me up to 5 now.  I miss having a mustang as a daily driver so I picked up an '05 Legend Lime for a good price.  Here is what she looked like when I got her:

Didn't even take me a day and I started to mod her.  Gotta figure that would happen with where I work ;)  Added a shorty antenna then started the dual exhaust conversion with a MAC axleback w/ 4" tips.  Removed hood scoop and the quarter window louvers that did not match.  Slowly began removing vinyl that was badly faded.

Added 20% window tint, tinted quarter marker and signal lights, added blackout panel, black fuel door, Raxiom 2010 style smoked taillights w/ sequential kit.

After hours of playing with a heat gun completed removing the vynil lemans stripes.  Put on Agent 47 mirrors (not fun to install btw).  Then added the retro style billet upper and lower grille, CDC chin spoiler, and quarter window louvers that actually match.  As she sits today:

This one is called Serendipity.  Next plan is to get her Matte Black Bullitt wheels.  Debating the Matte Black Super Snake Stripes after the nightmare of removing the older ones, lol.  Much more mods to add (I have underhood goodies to put on).  Such a fun car to drive and it is fun modding a S197.

SN95 1994-1999 / Thinking About Selling my '95 Vert
« on: July 03, 2011, 03:29 PM »
Been thinking about selling my '95 vert.  Kind of bored with it and I rarely take it out anymore.  Car runs like a champ, there are no mechanical issues with it.  Only thing I did to it was the K&N cold air intake (which I may put stock factory box back on) and changed the white top to a new black one a few years ago.  I put the 17x9 Chrome Cobra R rims on it but they are not in the best of shape.  I still have the mint stock 17x8 rims.  Garaged kept and only interior issue is the driver's seat has a tear in the leather from wear.  Car has every option they offered this year.  I even have the original tounneau cover which you cannot find with the bag for it.

78000 Original Miles
5.0L Auto w/ OD
PW, Power Drivers Seat, ABS Brakes
AM/FM CD Radio w/ Mach 460 System
Power Top
Fog Lights

This is also 1 of 36 made for 1995 with Crystal White Paint and Bright Red Leather Interior.  Appraised for $13500 last year.  I know it is hard to get appraised value, what do you think I could get for this car?  Think I'm crazy to consider selling it?  Appreciate any feedback-thanks!!

Does it help the value having Eagles Cheereaders in the back of it at one time and a model ;D

Transport Nightmare but New Addition to the Family has Arrived!!

Some of you knew about my inquiring on a California Special in Illinois that was incorrectly restored and is actually 1 of 251 High Country Specials sold from Denver, Colorado.

So it is official, I now have the '68 High Country Special in my possession :) It was a battle to get her here this week, but she is here and safe I included the rant I posted regarding the nightmare of transporting a car. I think if I buy a car out of state again, I am going to get it myself!

First company I hired did not even get car dispatched after 2 weeks so I canceled it. Poor communication is one of my biggest pet peeves. Hired another transport that promised to get the car within 5 days. This transport company picked the car up within 3 days and got it last Thursday. Granted, they were hours late to get it from previous owner and he was not there when they got it. I was told car would be delivered Tuesday or Wednesday of this week, as they had to deliver the car within 5 days as per promise. Well, got a call they could not make it out Tuesday since they had to unload cars in New Jersey first and mine was on top of carrier. I would have it Wednesday at noon. I was ok with this. Noon rolls around Wednesday, no call from driver. Called dispatching company who contracts truck that picked car up. Apparently the truck is having repairs done. Talked to driver, said he would get car to me later. Car is unloaded and runs great and such a great car. Thinking to myself, ok Asshat, rub it in a little more since I have the title transfer and paying for insurance on a car I have yet to see in person. I asked driver to meet him since apparently the truck is being repaired only 40 minutes from me in Bensalem. Said to call later, no problem. Call later, no answer. Call from another phone, answers. then says can't talk, call you back in a few minutes. Half hour later I am calling dispatching company again. they get driver on phone, who is now saying they can't deliver my car until the next morning, it is still on truck. BS!! Come to find out the other trailer they were using broke down, and now they were using a single car trailer towed by an F350 to deliver the cars individually. Driver was apparently in New York dropping off another car trying to say he will deliver my car first thing the next morning. I am infuriated at this point as we were getting bad storm warning and knew the car was not far from me and wanted to get it in shelter. Dispatch company told driver he needs to meet me so I can get my car, it is unacceptable and past promised date. He agrees to meet us at 10:00. 10:00 rolls around, waiting with trailer and truck travel center in Bensalem. Almost a half hour later a truck pulls in with a small trailer that seems unacceptable to trailer a lawn mower on Russian driver summons us to follow. Now I feel like I just stepped into a horror film. We follow to another lot down the street with more potholes than flat drive. Pull far back and it is poorly lit. Driver jumps out of his truck and says he will get car for me. I do not see it anywhere. It was in back in mud as I found out upon inspecting it over Then driver goes on and on about how great the car is, it's beautiful, people were taking pictures of it at rest stops, am I selling it. Seriously?? Frank and I looked car over as best we could but took advice of dispatcher to note on paperwork unable to inspect due to time of night and poor lighting in case we see anything during the day they are still liable. I saw some imperfections which could have been there. I could not confirm this as driver did mot mark spots on paperwork. His excuse, the guy was not there when he picked it up to sign off. I commented that he should have filled it put to cover himself for now I can't confirm what was there and what wasn't. I have never dealt with such incompetence in my life >:(

Today I did fully check her out and cleaned her up. Interior and trunk is immaculate. Paint is not perfect but I knew that. Torque box needs to be addressed. Then there is some antifreeze leaking. Took it for a drive-WOW!! This car runs strong and goes, better than the '66 I once had. Brakes are good too, almost sent the man creature through the windshield ;D She will be in Carlisle this weekend. 'Sky' has made a great addition and I am so happy to be in a classic again.

1968 Ford Mustang High Country Special - Altitude Adjustment
By Jim Smart/Mustang Monthly

When we spotted Tom Elledge's '68 High Country Special at the Carlisle All-Ford Nationals, we did a double-take. For one thing, High Country Specials aren't common to begin with, not even in Colorado where they were originally marketed. To find one in the middle of Pennsylvania is extremely unusual.

Imagine Tom's demeanor when he unearthed this limited-production hardtop in a barn, buried under bird droppings. Perhaps the poop can be credited with protecting the car and its identity for all those years. Tom is quick to say it was something he never expected to find anywhere, not to mention in a barn far from its origins.

Produced from '66-'68 as a special promotion vehicle for Colorado-area Ford dealers, the first two years of High Country Specials were little more than special exterior colors and a triangular HCS emblem for all body styles. For '68, the HCS became a hardtop only and borrowed the front foglights, sidescoops, and Shelby rearend treatment from the California Special.

Assembled at Milpitas, California (San Jose), and sold new at Courtesy Ford in Littleton, Colorado, Tom's High Country Special can't be described as mainstream. At first glance, it appears to be a 289-2V hardtop with fancy California Special-style graphics and body treatment, including the Shelby-style tailpanel with Thunderbird taillights. In fact, it's easy to believe it's a California Special because the HCS graphics are so subtle. Tom's is a J-code 302 four-barrel engine with all the trimmings.

We appreciate the chrome Styled Steel wheels wrapped in E70x14-inch reproduction Firestone Wide-Oval tires. The narrow-band white sidewalls gave cars of the period a clean, well-trimmed appearance. They were novel because few were ordered with them.

When Tom hauled this car home to Gettysburg, there was a lot of work to be done. Thankfully, the hardtop was solid and didn't need structural repairs. Jeff Keffel reworked the body and laid down the Candyapple Red finish. The sheetmetal is original; there are no patch panels or body filler on this one. Mike Hufnagel at the Pony Ranch in Hanover gets much of the credit for the rest of the body. Keith's Pit Stop handled the mechanical restoration, including rebuilding Tom's matching-number 302.

Inside is a standard red-vinyl interior with the optional console. The standard AM radio is good for ball games and talk radio, but not much else today. Power steering, a more common option, eases driving effort.

What excites Tom most about his HCS is the rarity, with only 250 others made for '68. According to Kevin Marti of Marti Auto Works, who has an incredible Ford factory database for '67-'73s, the San Jose plant produced 45 Candyapple Red '68 High Country Specials. There were 43 with the 302 four-barrel engine. Only nine were Candyapple Red with the 302-4V.

Ford's Denver sales district threw a big party for these cars when they were first introduced. Savvy reporters and sales people met the train as it rolled in from California with hundreds of HCS Mustangs on board. The atmosphere at Milpitas was festive when the first '67 High Country Special rolled off the line.

There wasn't much hoopla when the High Country Specials were built at Milpitas in 1968. They rolled into Denver without much notice, routed to dealers all throughout the area. Although, when Tom's HCS arrived at Courtesy Ford, you can bet it was noticed. That's what these cars were all about: being noticed and owning something special for the high country.

1st Gen 1964.5-1973 / I'm Buying Another Stang!!!!
« on: April 20, 2011, 01:07 PM »
Working on it, as long as loan is approved I will be bringing this home:

Got a lengthy history on it but this car is actually a 1968 High Country Special!!  The DSO and Marti Report confirmed it despite having been started on a GT/CS conversion.  Still trying to confrim how many made but it is less than 300 in existance!  The High Country for '68 does have the GT/CS styling but these cars were allocated to be badged and sold in the Denver, Colorado district which is why they are slightly different.  i only know of one other one in my area so I have him to thank for informing me so much about these cars.

Bad news, she has a misfire but still runs and drives straight.  trans has been redone.  Has a power disc brake conversion.  Big issue was she was repainted to a dark blue chevy color by previous owner.  Car was originally acapulco Blue which is my plan to restore her back to.  Has tyoical rusting in torq boxes, etc but structurally sound and has been garaged most of its life.  Interior and trunk is immaculate.

Wish me luck I can get a loan.  Price is right for it.  Only other drawback is road trip to Illinios, about 1000 miles one way for me ???

Had a great time visiting the AACA Musuem, lots of great classics and antiques on hand as well as memorabilia.  Especially great was the Shelbys they had on display for a limited time ;D  Best part of the day, Tony's GT350 resurrected in time to cruise with the 30+ Mustangs that convoyed to the musuem.  If you remeber, he was the one rearended by a careless kid just weeks after getting the car from Vegas.  No sign of the incident from what I saw.  Here are some pics!!

I drove the '05 Legend Lime :)

Just a few pics for now.  Maybe I'll post more later.

New Edge 1999-2004 / Nasty's New Mods
« on: March 07, 2011, 01:20 PM »
What can I say, I have been busy :D  Did lots of performance upgrades but thought I would share the custom ones I just did recently.

Did some sprucing up to the rather plain interior (since MCA does not view it as Modified enough >:( )

Before

After

I realized after install I goofed and forgot to tape off the grey trim surrounding lower part on console.  Teach me to sit on a part for a while before painting it.  Looks worse in the picture than it does in person.  Debating painting this part back to the grey (since it looks like Ford did that already).

Soon to be installed
