^ is there any pointer's on what i need to do to be prepared to go that fast?

Wear clean underwear. If you get caught, your going to jail.

I got stopped for doing 169 in a 50 in my Procharged 71 Z/28 that I built to race in the Silver State Challenge. It cost me $10,000 13 years ago to buy my way out of that mess.

Other than that, just the standard safety precautions. I'm sure the Texas Mile and Bonneville have a rule book.

I think this quote needs to be added to the Though Of The Day thread as well. That's awesome!

The Texas mile safety standards are kind of lax, there have been some big crashes there over they years. Open road race classes like Silver State are way stricter. With open road racing you can't just go out there and run fast right away like you can at the mile events. You have to work your way up through the speed classes. In my opinion most drivers really should not be out there even going over 100 mph if they are not used to big speeds.

It goes without saying that things happen fast at those speeds. But if your goal is to run fast than it makes sense to work your way up. Also one thing to keep in mind is a lot of the people that have done big speed in this thread have had cars modified and very capable of those speeds.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

I touched triple digits in my 07 V6.  Bone stock, public roads.  Just decided on a whim to hit 100.  I was a stupid 18 yr old who thought that little V6 was the baddest thing in the world.  Never did that again.  Just glad the 2 piece driveshaft didn't separate like they're known to do.

155 is all in with the Audi, unless it was delimited....

Yea its limited at 155 the car was bone stock except for a wicked exhaust system by stratosphere. But the cops in this area got to know the car very quickly for it's laser red color and exhaust and would pull it over daily just to be dicks. Searched the car one day after pulling off the highway into a gas station and said he couldn't get a radar reading on it and though I was packing a radar jamer. Only thing I was packing was a bowl haha. Never got a speeding ticket with it because they never could get a clear shot I guess but they hit me with everything they could. Unfortinley due to cops and getting laid off the car had to go. I was pulled over 7 times in 3 days!

On hwy20,130 in my Mustang(while being passed by a M5 v8 and a M3 v8).Next trip 155,164 and 176 in a Porsche Turbo.Have not gone much over the speed limit since. In Wa.state,110 in a 55 zone was good for 3 hours on the side of the road in cuffs in the back of staters car, hiring a lawyer,a year probation, adriving school/road rage assesment and three Saturdays sitting in a classroom listening to other people tell how they wound up there. My story was simple, came out of sweeping left into a sweeping right while accelerating right past a sheriff,oh well....

I was up for habitual traffic offender status in WA state, I had a judge look right at me and tell me that I had the worst driving record of anyone he had seen that still had a drivers license. He guessed correctly I might add that I had spent an exhorbitant amount of money on the best lawyers to stay out of jail and to keep my license. At one point I had 3 reckless drivings, two negligents, and two reckless endangerments. So I did the needful, and I got a far faster car that I didn't have to prove so much as I did when I had my 99 Cobra. My last ticket was a long story, but it made me shape up as I was supposed to lose my license for 5 years, and after spending $10,000 I yet again averted disaster. 120 mph out of the I90 tunnel headed to Eastern Washington and I happened to go right by an aggressive driving patrol officer.

When I got my ( shall remain unmentioned ) sports car , I found myself not wanting to prove myself in " testing " situations nearly as much. But alas I did have a testing run in with a heavily modified Kleeman Stage 3 E55, I unfortunately at the time did not have my nitrous bottle. So this test actually went all the way to 176 mph just to make sure that the outcome was clear! I am sure you and I could compare stories over coffee one day, as I did the same class and had a similar experience as well!

I keep seeing 130 a peoples top speeds in cars that I'm sure would kill my litte 86 notch but I had that thing over 150. I have 3.73 gears in my rear end and was thinking of changing to 4.30's because I'd rather have a top speed of 120 and a car that's scary to drive in 1st-3rd. Than a car that will go 150+ but only light up the tires in first I have to clutch it to get 2ed to break. With 4.30's I think 3rd gear will roast tire with no clutch. Any thoughs?
