ok I know that this has been covered probably on every Mustang forum out there but here is the difference, it wasn't posted on RPM so there is no creditability to them. :)

your first step is to find yourself a set of the 99-01 Cobra Tail lights, complete with the OEM harness and bulb sockets. It is getting harder and harder to find them, due to Ford not selling them anymore and there are none yet available in the aftermarket world (and I seriously doubt there ever will be) now they tend to go from anywhere of 200.00 on eBay if you are Lucky to searching the web and happening to find them from another forum, or just chance craigslist.

Now once you find them its pretty simple and straight forward to do the job here is the simple step by step

step one of the install is to remove your stock tail lights. You are going to set them to the side for now but you will go back to these in a little bit.

Step two is to mount the new Cobra lights in place and you will notice that the wire plug connector is different its a simple 1-2 fix but you need to run a single 16ga wire first.

Step three is to look on the driver side rear fender well and you will see another connector and if you look you will see a solid green wire. You are going to get a wire splice T terminal and clamp it on that wire. Now take your new 16ga wire and crimp a Male spade style connector on one end of it and you are going to plug it in to the T connector. You are then going to run it along the wire harness zip tie or use small strips of electrical tape to hold it in place and end up all the way to the Passenger side Tail light next to the factory connector leave yourself about 3-5 inches from the connector towards the tail light housing.

Step 4 you are going to take your factory tail light's and cut the plug connectors off them making sure to cut it as close to the rubber grommet as possible. Once you cut it you will see that the left and right side wire colors are all the same except there is no green wire. You are going to solder or use butt connectors you choice ( I soldered mine and shrink tubed them to make sure they never get loose or corroded) all the wires from the new lights to the old plug connector and the new wire you ran to the green wire (if you use a male and female spade connector you can remove the lights still) once this is done you are going to move to under the dash. Leave all your factory trim panels off for now until you test the lights!

Step 5 is all under the dash you are going to need to swap the stock flasher for a different one (not doing so will make the blinkers blink super fast because it thinks there is a bulb out) if you look directly above the OBDII connector you will see a yellow looking square thing this is your flasher. remove it from the mounting bracket and swap it with either a ford one Part # is 5L5Z-13350-AA  or you can go to your local parts dealer and just get a EP-27 (the aftermarket one is like 5.00 cheaper but it wont go back into the clip so you will have to zip tie it up) now after you swap it out you are going to look directly above the steering column and you will see another connector (it will be Gray in color) now there is a solid green wire that is coming out of this connector this is for your brake interrupt on the stock lights being that the stop/tail/turn lights are all one bulb. Cut this wire then using electrical tape cover it up to make sure it doesn't ground out while you are driving. (see photo that I stole from a different blog)

Now once you do this check all your lights to make sure they work. If they all work as they should clean up re assemble your interior panels and you are all set. If some don't work (and a couple might not) check your bulbs these things are extremely sensitive to being shipped and the elements break. Just steal them out of your old tail lights its the same bulb. Now once done step back take a look and enjoy having a set of truly different lights and taking part in having a different looking Mustang than anyone else has!

here is how my ride looks with them

I love the 99/01 Cobra tails, I also love the aero add ons on this car!
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

Thanks guys, The Tails are rare to find Ford does no longer sell them but there are a few dealers that have them in stock still new. I check eBay regularly for them for friends so if I spot a good set I will post links here for you guys.

That is a really good deal for Cobra tails, and I wish I had the coin to buy every set I came across.

you just gotta keep your eyes peeled mine were 550.00 new in the box from back east best bet is if you see a god set for a fair price jump on them cause they are becoming more and more rare!
