Photos: DAY 1 - On the road to 2011 Shelby Terlingua Event

Here are some photos from today's road trip to Marathon, TX on our way to the 2011 Shelby Terlingua Event. We will make the rest of the trip there tomorrow morning, and I will be covering the event from there for the rest of the week. So, Stay tuned for MUCH more !!!

So a knock came on my door at 5:30am this morning...  We were on the road by 6:30, and by 8:30 had our first Mustang casualty. Lori Harris' REAPER had driveline problem that turned them back around to Bastrop to pick up another of their Mustangs - A white Fox Body that would need it's front brake pads replaced before getting them back on the road.

We continued on to meet up with more folks, and Jeff & Lori would eventually meet up with everyone later this evening.

A quick stop for the breakfast of champions (donuts), and then back on the road.

Time for some more healthy nourishment...

...and some more driving.

A quick stop to check out the Pecos River

Posing for some photos. And then, back on the road - Again.

Another stop at one of many historic destinations along the way...

And then, yes, even more driving...

And we've arrived in Marathon TX, and met up with the California crew and others from elsewhere.

This is what you get when you mix Big Bird and Shelby...

Some folks know how to make a splashier entrance than others...

RPM'ers are a colorful sort

Speaking of colorful, police lights twice in 30 minutes...

Ladies & Gentlemen - Bill Neale Terlingua designer is in the house !!

A big part of this event is raising money for the Terlingua area, through charity auctions like the one we will have this week. Bill Neale very generously donated one of his ORIGINAL  pieces of work to the cause !!

Time to call it a day  ...and eat & drink too ;)

Much more coming tomorrow and the entire time we are here. Stay tuned !!

Man, what I would give to ride in the Ford GT

Its hard to describe the feeling of a relatively lightweight, yet impressively powerful car with tall gearing and so much in gear " reach ". Basically it sucks in the horizon in these long, torque lead strides all the way to redline.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

Hey that's Helaina's 5.0!   It's the gray one with the violet carbon fiber ground effects in the pics above the Terlingua vert.   A very cool build by Makenzie Mustang Supply.
