05 Mustang V6 help - gauge trouble
« on: February 05, 2012, 04:26 PM »
Hey RPMers, one of my friends has a 05 V6, automatic, and lately she's been having some problems.  The fuse that goes to the radio melted, so she got that fixed, but that didn't address the issues with the gauges.  The speedo will work when the car is first started most of the time, but craps out and stops working after a little while.  The rpm and gas gauge don't work at all.  The local Ford dealership is saying there isn't a problem, because apparently the gauges worked when they ran diagnostics.  She now has photo proof to show them that they don't work, but now we just need to figure out how to fix the issues.  Any thoughts on what might be causing the trouble?

Much appreciated!

Hey Jeff. I've got an 05 gt. It does the same stuff. Well fortunately my speedometer works.
But any ways, once I got tired of it, a few forums later, and an American Muscle rep it was explained to me that the gauges of our ponies are run by little plastic gears. And well 7 years later of wear they die. Leavening your friend needing a new gauge cluster. I haven't switched mine out yet, as my speedo works. And I haven't gotten a direct answer as to whether the ecu carries the mileage over.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info!  I'll pass that along, and hopefully this will solve the problems.
