Comparison: Chevrolet Camaro 1LE vs. Ford Mustang Boss 302
Source: TopSpeed

Experts have thoroughly exhausted the competition between the Mustang GT500 and the Camaro ZL1. That competition is getting so old that even we are beginning to tire of it. The results are quite crystal clear in that competition; the Mustang kicks the Camaro’s ass in a straight line, but the Camaro is a better road car that takes on twisty roads with much more grace.

One competition that has yet to be put to bed in the Mustang vs. Camaro rivalry is between two fairly even-matched opponents, the Mustang Boss 302 and the fresh-off-of-the-car-show-circuit Camaro 1LE. If you are wondering what “1LE” stands for, we’ll let you know. Back in the late 1980s – in the Camaro’s dark ages – Chevy put together a 1LE option package that included a radio and A/C delete, taller gearing for better acceleration, upgraded brakes, and an upgraded suspension. It was essentially a track-ready Camaro, which is a bit of an oxymoron for that era Camaro.

This new 1LE model is pretty similar to the one of yesteryear, sans the deletion of much-needed comfort items. We’ll get into more of the specifics in a bit.

So, how well does the Camaro 1LE stack up to the mighty Mustang Boss 302? You’ll have to click here for the full comparison to find out http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/comparison-chevrolet-camaro-1le-vs-ford-mustang-boss-302-ar132541.html

Not the most favorable review for the Boss 302 and I never like estimates of how quick a car is. If they could not actually run the two and post a video so we could see with our own eyes then they have convinced me of absolutely nothing Boss Man. Without the videos of track comparisons and dyno results right before your eyes like the 2013 GT500 and ZL1 I am not convinced the Camaro is the better car just yet ?

They said the 1LE has taller gearing when it actually has shorter gearing than the SS. That being said I will wait for an actual test like many of you were waiting for.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

this is the first I have heard of the Camaro model. Interesting to see what happens here.

Either way, competition pushes both past where they would be on their own.

The 1LE for all intents , and purposes is an SS / ZL1 hybrid with 3.91 gears, and ZL1 tires and wheels.

When I see on-track comparisons then I will know what it what but until then ? I saw where a whole host of ZL1 Camaros were track tested and the best time Frank Hawley the legendary drag racer could post was a 12.1 quarter mile with the best eighth mile in the low 8 second range. My first time on a track with my new RS3 I was running in the 7.8 range with limited traction so where is one of those vaunted ZL1 Camaros ? I want to run one !

I believe that a stock car was alleged to touch 11.9x but the reported 60 foot time was debatable on stock tires. The ZL1 is heavy, and this is why they refused to call the car a Z28. I think that your car will not have a problem with a stock ZL1 because your car is about 600 lbs lighter with similar rwhp.

As soon as I read this, "Cadillacs in the late 60s had nearly 500 horsepower", I laughed and quit reading the rest.

Especially when you consider that the most Gross horsepower a Cadillac of that era even with the 500 ci V8 had was 400 hp.

I remember those gross horsepower rating days well. The engines were run on a dyno without anything being attached to them and they got the benefit of running headers instead of the iron manifolds, just a bit deceiving but back then horsepower sold cars. Remember win on Sunday, sell on Monday ?
